The Green Festival is an annual event to raise awareness of the local and global environment amongst local people in and around Peterborough.

It runs for two weeks each year with a big launch in the City Centre followed by two weeks of events and activities held all over the city. 

The Green Festival is organised by the city’s green charity Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) and supports Peterborough’s aspiration to become the UK’s Environment Capital.

PECT is an independent environmental charity  set up in 1992. Since this time we have established a track record in delivering innovative and award-winning environmental projects of local and national significance.

All about the UK’s Environment Capital aspiration 

Fifteen years ago Peterborough was made one of four UK Environment Cities. Since this time Peterborough has worked hard to improve its environmental credentials and is committed to creating the UK’s Environment Capital.

In 2010 Peterborough became the first UK city to sign up to a high level commitment following the adoption of a new eco policy by Peterborough City Council.  This new policy sits above all others and every decision the city now takes must contribute towards protecting and preserving Peterborough’s environment. 

With the adoption of the major policy, the Council has voted for Peterborough to be known as Home of Environment Capital. This is a challenge the city has set itself to move its environment agenda forward and celebrates the green assets already established locally.

Success in Creating the UK’s Environment Capital will be directly related to the support and actions of every resident, business and organisation in the city. The greater the support the sooner we will reach our goal.  It’s down to all of us. By joining in with Green Festival events you will help Peterborough edge closer to the Environment Capital status it deserves.

The green Festival is now in its 20th year! It has come a long way since the early days and continues to get bigger and better each year.
