Hello there peeps!

I am the Waste Reduction Officer for Peterborough Environment City Trust and the Cambridgeshire coordinator for the Eastex Materials Exchange Website.  http://www.eastex.org.uk/

My role is to save waste from landfill and advise businesses how to reduce waste, be more efficient which can in turn save them money.  The Eastex Materials Exchange website is the perfect tool. Its FREE to use and helps to keep material in circulation by getting it re-used and re-homed. My favourite saying is 'One persons waste is anothers' raw material'.
You will be surprised what we have re-homed! From Urinals and flights of stairs through Eastex during the Corn Exchange demolition to Large containers and drums through Eastex for the Eco Schools Junk Band. It's never a dull moment here and a very rewarding job.

My pet environmental hate is:  When I see people throwing things on the floor when there is a bin just a few meters away from them.

My top green tip:  Okay so I have 3,

Tip 1:  COMPOST!
I bought an outdoor compost bin and a little 'Compost Caddy' for the kitchen. I was surprised how many times a week me and my housemates filled the 'Compost Caddy' up and had to empty it into the compost bin.  Wormerys are also good as the food breaks down to compost quicker, and of course, the worms get fed!

Tip 2:  REGISTER WITH EASTEX AND SEE WHAT YOU CAN GET OR GET RID OF FOR FREE! (...and save from landfill)!
Need an office desk or some wooden doors? Want some cardboard boxes for moving home or even some office stationary? Thinking of renovating your garden but dont know what to do with your soil and shrubbery? (I haven't finished...) Looking for material for an art project or want make things with your kids? The company you work for having a refurb but don't want to pay for a disposal costs? (Breath Kim)! THEN HEAD THIS WAY!!!  http://www.eastex.org.uk/

Tip 3:  USE A RE-USABLE SHOPPING BAG!  How many times have you had to clear out your supermarket plastic carrier bags? Okay the odd carrier bag can be handy to pick up your dog's poo to save you gettting a fine, but even then there are more economical ways of keeping your mutts rear ends waste off the streets!

On average plastic carrier bags are used for up to 8 minutes but take 100's, sometimes 1000's of years to decompose, you can't recycle them either so IT MAKES SENSE to get yourself a re-usable shopping bag. Role it up, keep it in your handbag, in your car, by your front door (I have one in each place as i am always needing them)!  REMEMBER, re-usable bags take a lot of energy to be made so you will need to use it over 25 times for it to be energy neutral and worth it being made in the first place.

AMEN!!
Have a happy green time.
