Recent Work experience with English Heritage

As part of the Skills for The Future Programme, I have recently spent a week doing work experience with English Heritage in Cambridge. This was great fun and I learnt a lot about how English Heritage works, here is a snap shot of my week;

Day 1 I got to spend the day with the designation team in Boston, doing a re-survey of the town centre. We were looking at buildings that are not currently listed but may be worthy of listing. They were also re-writing some of the existing list descriptions that lacked in detail.

Another day I shadowed Robert Paterson (EH architect), we visited Milbrook Church to check specification of stone types, visited Clophill Church which is a scheduled ancient monument ruin that Bedford preservation trust plan to turn it into a retreat for hikers, we also searched for an ancient quarry in Pavenham.

During the week I also Sat in on the Design and Conservation Panel for Cambridge, attended a lecture given by David Grech to South Cambs council members and Conservation team, sat in on the South Cambs conservation teams weekly case meeting and visited many sites with David Grech the Historic Area’s Advisor for English Heritage.

As you can see I had a great time!
