On Thursday evening the Reception room at the Town hall was packed to capacity with pupils, teachers, parents, governors and a few invited guests waiting to hear who had won in each category.
It was a brilliant night and it was fantastic to be celebrating all the hard word that is being done in Peterborough Schools, the judges had a really difficult time deciding the winners in each category because the standard of all the nominations was so high. Those who attended on the night were only those on the short lists but everyone who was nominated deserves a lots of cheering and clapping because you are all doing fantastic work.
So in case you weren't there here are the results:
Green Aspirations Award -
Awarded to an Eco Committee or group of pupils who have big ideas for their school and are working hard to achieve them.
Winner: Hampton College Green Team
Highly Commended: Sacred Heart RC Primary Eco Committee and Southfields Infant School Eco Committee.
Sustainable Travel Award
Awarded to the school with the most innovative awareness raising initiatives for sustainable travel and who are working hard to keep their travel plan alive.
Winner: Southfields Junior School
Highly Commended: John Clare Primary School, Sacred Heart RC Primary School
Green Supporter Award
Awarded to a parent/ Governor/ member of support staff who have played an active and invaluable role in the Eco Schools program in their school.
Winner: Bryony Farrow, St Botolph's C of E Primary School
Highly Commended: Harvey Day, Southfields Infant School, Kirsty Emmerton, Sacred Heart RC Primary School
Gardening in the Classroom Award ...
Awarded to a school whose pupils are not just gardening in after school clubs but who are incorporating gardening composting etc into the curriculum
Winner: Southfields Infant School
Highly Commended: Dogsthorpe Junior School, Sacred Heart RC Primary School
Small Spaces Gardening Award
Awarded to a school who don't have a lot of space in their grounds but who are still gardening in pots, container and windowsills
Winner: William Law C of E Primary School
Highly Commended: Matley Primary School, Queen's Drive Infant School, St Botolph's C of E Primary School
Natural Resources Award
Awarded to a school who have made significant effort to reduce their energy consumption, not necessarily the biggest reduction but real commitment and pupil involvement
Winner: Newark Hill Primary School
Highly Commended: Hampton College, Southfields Infant School
Biodiversity Award
Awarded to a school who has worked to increase the biodiversity in their grounds.
Winner: Northborough Primary School
Highly Commended: Southfields Infant School, Peakirk cum Glinton C of E Primary School
Global Perspectives Award
Awarded to a school who have imaginative projects which introduce the Global dimension into school life and embed it in learning.
Winner: Werrington Primary School
Highly Commended: Nene Valley Primary School, Orton Wistow Primary School, St Thomas More RC Primary School.
Eco Leader Award
Awarded to a teacher who has shown real determination in driving forward the Eco program in their school, they have inspired others to take part in initiatives and have high aspirations for what the school can achieve.
Winner: Eleanor Pullen Walenn, Hampton College
Highly Commended: Debra Harris, Ormiston Bushfield Academy, Nicola Ward, Sacred Heart RC Primary School
Schools in the Community Award
This was a special award which was judged from the information provided in all other nominations, and was awarded to a school who have a range of projects aimed at improving their local community.
Winner: Ormiston Bushfield Academy
