The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Peterborough is running a range of activities throughout the summer as part of the John Clare Country Project.
The John Clare Country Project, centred around the poet John Clare’s birth place in Helpston, celebrates the history, heritage, culture, wildlife and landscape of this beautiful area.
Activities include an Orchid Walk, Garden Watch Weekend and Dragonfly Day. They run from May through to August and most of the events are free and suitable for families.
A flyer detailing the activities can be found here
Do you have nearly new clothes and accessories that you never wear? Would you like to swap them for something you will? Then come along to our Swish event on Tuesday 1st June!
The Swish is just one of the many exciting events taking place for this year’s Green Festival, which kicks off on Saturday 29th May in Peterborough City Centre.
On average, women buy 14 items each year – such as jeans, blouses, skirts, dresses and shoes –which will never be worn.
Around 74% of the clothes and textiles we throw away go to landfill. This represents some 1.8 million tonnes of waste. Another 13% are incinerated and the other 13% are recovered or recycled.
An alternative to throwing away unwanted items or leaving them to gather dust, our Swish event is a guilt-free way to add new items to you wardrobe, have fun and do your bit for the environment.
So how does the Swish work?
Bring along up to six of your unwanted items - clothes, shoes, accesories and books in good condition.
Add your items to the rails and take a look at what other people have brought.
Try on items and if you like them, keep them!
The Rules:
Everyone must bring along at least one item
You can take home up to the amount of items you bring
The Swish event will take place at Thorpe Hall Hospice and there will be samples of organic wine and nibbles available.
Entry fee is £5 and booking is essential!

There is also a Cadge-IT event for swapping unwanted computer games, gadgets and electrical items on the same day as the Swish event.
With the cost of fuel expected to soar even further over the summer, Peterborough City Council's Travelchoice team is encouraging people to buddy-up on their car journeys to save money and protect the environment.
In particular, the team is suggesting work colleagues who live near each other could make great savings on their fuel costs by car-sharing on the commute to and from work.
The Travelchoice team operates the www.carsharepeterborough.com website that helps people find a buddy with which to share regular journeys. You can register with the site to find walking, cycling and taxi buddies too.
There are more than 364,000 journeys registered on the site, which means anyone looking to find a car share partner is in with a good chance of finding someone to split the cost of their journey.
