Zero Waste Week is held in November each year and challenges businesses to reduce the amount of waste they produce.

Background

In 2009 Peterborough was the first city in the UK to gain Zero Waste Place accreditation from Defra (Department for environment, food and rural affairs). The accreditation was awarded after the city carried out a nine month project to test innovative methods for reducing rubbish in the City Centre.

This original project diverted over 3,200 tonnes of waste from landfill, saving over 1,500 tonnes of C02 and gaining recognition of environmental achievement with a prestigious Gold Green Apple Award.

Part of the lasting legacy of this project is Zero Waste Week – an annual campaign run in November where businesses aim to reduce as much rubbish as possible to ensure the city continues to work towards creating the UK’s Environment Capital in Peterborough.

It is a great opportunity for your business to save money while helping reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill.
