Investors in the Environment is your opportunity to gain environmental accreditation through genuine change and environmental improvement as a business.
In January 2010 we launched Peterborough's very own environmental accreditation scheme for businesses and organisations. (See the launch photos)
Investors in the Environment will provide businesses with a framework for cutting their environmental impact and an accreditation stamp for achieving different levels of reduction – bronze, silver and green.
Over 600 businesses have now pledged their support to the scheme with 95 having achieved or working toward achieving accreditation.
Participants measure their environmental impact and are guided through how to make reductions in areas like water use, energy use, and the amount of waste produced. The scheme focuses on practical ways businesses can implement green changes to make it as easy as possible for them to take part.
Unlike most environmental accreditations, Investors in the Environment takes a bold approach insisting that actual environmental savings are made, rather than just having the right paperwork in place.

 Hugh Cripps, Chief Executive of Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) believes that an environmental accreditation built around the needs of business is well overdue. He said, “The idea behind Investors in the Environment is to encourage businesses in the Peterborough area to get smarter when it comes to using resources and producing waste. Not only will this reduce their environmental impact, but it will also save them money.
"Hundreds of local businesses are already getting involved in the scheme."
Investors in the Environment is being delivered by Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) working with Peterborough Chamber of Commerce, Opportunity Peterborough, Greater Peterborough Partnership and Peterborough City Council.
It is being supported by green heavyweights including Viridor, The Environment Agency and Lark Energy. Together, the organisations hope Investors in the Environment will further embed Peterborough’s growing reputation as the UK’s Environment Capital.
