Green Festival

An annual event to raise awareness of the local and global environment amongst local people.

To celebrate the 20th Green Festival, we'll be giving away a bike every 20 minutes at the Launch Day on Saturday 28th May in the city centre. A fortnight of events all over the city will follow, ending in a grand finale at Willowbrook Farm on Sunday 12th June.

Each year we have a theme for the Festival. In 2011 the theme is sustainable transport - We're working with Travelchoice to encourage everyone to leave the car at home and walk, cycle, and use public transport instead. The launch is being held from 10am-4pm in Cathedral Square, St John's Square, and the Cathedral Green. A completely free event, the jam-packed launch will feature a range of stalls, stands, activities, entertainments, music, games, competitions, and give-aways.

Not only will there be a stage bus (a bus that transforms into a stage!) but it'll be manned by Heart FM's Kev and Ros. There'll be pedal powered scaletrix, a bike simulator, healthy cooking demonstrations (with tasters to hand out), the greenest cars will be on show, the Heart FM angels will be helping us give away a bike every 20 minutes, and local schools are helping us create sustainable transport themed bunting!
