Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) has been shortlisted to win a Charity Times award in the ‘best charity to work for’ category.
Now in their 7th year, the prestigious Charity Times awards are designed to recognise and reward excellence in the management and co-ordination of all charitable activities. The awards are judged by a panel which represents the leading figures in the UK charity sector.

Charities shortlisted in the ‘best charity to work for’ category have demonstrated to the judges that they have instilled a sense of loyalty and purpose in their employees while also providing them with excellent working conditions. Last year’s winner was national charity Save the Children UK.
PECT’s Chief Executive Hugh Cripps is delighted that PECT has been shortlisted for this award saying, “It’s fantastic news and just goes to show that you don’t have to be a large national organisation to gain recognition in awards like this. Our aim at PECT has always been to help create a cleaner, greener, healthier Peterborough – the UK’s Environment Capital. The dedication, hard work, and expertise of our staff is what makes achieving this aim possible. Looking after the people that work at PECT is of utmost importance to us.”
PECT’s employees enjoy a range of benefits including subsidised yoga classes, an annual team away day, and flexible working hours. Lisa Taylor is office manager at the charity, she said, “Our ethos at PECT very much revolves around our staff, we are a friendly bunch. There is definitely a culture where each of us is valued and encouraged to have a say on how the organisation is run, which projects we carry out, and the key decisions made.
“We all work very hard, and the projects we deliver make a real difference locally. On many occasions our work is used regionally and nationally as examples of best practice for other cities to follow. When things are busy it’s easy to loose your work-life balance, but that’s something we believe is important and actively encourage.”
PECT will find out if it has won the award on 1st September when the results are announced.
