The Peterborough Natural Environment Audit was completed in 1996 and is described by English Nature as the UK’s first local biodiversity action plan.
It is a scientific survey of the range of species and habitats that make up Peterborough’s natural environment. It is used as a reference document to assist sustainability research and policy framework at local, regional and national levels, and in particular for its practical application of the principles of critical natural capital and constant natural assets.
The main objectives of the Audit process were agreed to be:
- Maintaining the biodiversity of the District, ie the full range of habitats and species
- Maintaining sustainable natural resources for public amenity
The Audit is available from PECT, priced £5.00, including postage and packging.
