SUMMARY:Big Energy Saving Week
DESCRIPTION:As part of Big Energy Saving Week (20th-26th January 2020) PECT will be helping you discover how to reduce your household carbon footprint and save on energy costs. \nThere is substantial evidence of the detrimental impact of fuel poverty on the physical and mental health of residents. We support residents who are struggling to pay their energy bills or cannot keep their home at a sufficient temperature. \nWe aim to reduce the numbers of people living with preventable ill health\, and to help reduce energy usage and cut carbon. \nHead to one of our events to meet our friendly and impartial advisor and to find out how we can help your household save energy. \n\nMonday 20th January 2020\, 10am-2pm\nMarch Library\, City Road\, March\, PE15 9LT\nTuesday 21st January 2020\, 10am-2pm\nWisbech Library\, Ely Place\, PE13 1EU\nWednesday 22nd January 2020\, 10am-2pm\nHuntingdon Library and Archives\, Princes Street\, Huntingdon PE29 3PA\nThursday 23rd January 2020\, 1pm-3pm\nWhittlesey Child & Family Zone\, 15 Scaldgate\, Whittlesey\, PE7 1SD\nFriday 24th January 2020\, 10.30-2pm\nPeterborough Central Library & Archives\, Broadway\, Peterborough\, PE1 1RX\n\n \nFind out more by visiting the campaign webpage.

SUMMARY:People's Assembly XR Peterborough - Green Backyard (PE2 8AT)
DESCRIPTION:Saturday January 25th 12pm –  5pm  \nPeople’s Assembly XR Peterborough  \nExtinction Rebellion Peterborough is meeting for an afternoon of sharing. \nThere will be a bring and share picnic\, a people’s assembly exploring ideas on actions going forwards and a chance to participate in workshops such as ‘Gaia’s choir‘ and the ‘Rhythmic Rebels’ samba band and XR Arts factory T-shirt printing. \nXR’s Vision \nOur world is in crisis. Life itself is under threat. Yet every crisis contains the possibility of transformation. Across the world\, heralded by the young\, people are waking up and coming together. \nWe hear history calling to us from the future. We catch glimpses of a new world of love\, respect and regeneration\, where we have restored the intricate web of all life. It’s a future that’s inside us all – located in the fierce love we carry for our children\, in our urge to help a stranger in distress\, in our wish to forgive\, even when that seems too much to ask. \nAnd so we rebel for this\, calling in joy\, creativity and beauty. We rise in the name of truth and withdraw our consent for ecocide\, oppression and patriarchy. We rise up for a world where power is shared for regeneration\, repair and reconciliation. We rise for love in its ultimate wisdom. Our vision stretches beyond our own lifespan\, to a horizon dedicated to future generations and the restoration of our planet’s integrity. \nTogether\, our rebellion is the gift this world needs. We are XR and you are us. \nOur Demands \n1 Tell the truth\nGovernment must tell the truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency\, working with other institutions to communicate the urgency for change. \n2 Act Now\nGovernment must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025. \n3 Beyond Politics\nGovernment must create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice. \nAll are welcome who adhere to our values and principles: \n1. we have a shared vision of change\nCreating a world that is fit for generations to come. \n2. we set our mission on what is necessary\nMobilising 3.5% of the population to achieve system change – using ideas such as “Momentum-driven organising” to achieve this. \n3. we need a regenerative culture\nCreating a culture which is healthy\, resilient and adaptable. \n4. we openly challenge ourselves and our toxic system\nLeaving our comfort zones to take action for change. \n5. we value reflecting and learning\nFollowing a cycle of action\, reflection\, learning\, and planning for more action. Learning from other movements and contexts as well as our own experiences. \n6. we welcome everyone and every part of everyone\nWorking actively to create safer and more accessible spaces. \n7. we actively mitigate for power\nBreaking down hierarchies of power for more equitable participation. \n8. we avoid blaming and shaming\nWe live in a toxic system\, but no one individual is to blame. \n9. we are a non-violent network\nUsing non-violent strategy and tactics as the most effective way to bring about change. \n10. we are based on autonomy and decentralisation\nWe collectively create the structures we need to challenge power. Anyone who follows these core principles and values can take action in the name of Extinction Rebellion. \nSaturday January 25th 12pm –  5pm  \nGreen Backyard\, Oundle Road\, Peterborough PE2 8AT \nAn Extinction Rebellion Peterborough FREE event. \n
