SUMMARY:Online Event: North Angle Solar Farm
DESCRIPTION:This April and May\, Cambridgeshire County Council is running a social media campaign\, survey and series of online events on its North Angle Solar Farm project\, in Soham. The aim is to offer opportunities for local residents and businesses to learn more about the proposal to develop a portion of the site into a 29 MW solar farm producing green energy and provide their views ahead of a full planning application being submitted. \nCambridgeshire County Council’s vision is to deliver net zero carbon emissions for the region by 2050. As part of this\, there is the opportunity to look at using some of its estate to produce and store electricity\, in order to support the Government’s decarbonisation goals\, whilst simultaneously generating revenues. \nThe Council has already successfully developed a schools’ energy programme and invested £11million into 55 schools across the county. It has also built a 12 MW solar park at Triangle Farm\, Soham\, which generates clean energy and has delivered over £350\,000 per annum net revenue to support Council services such as adult social care\, since it started operating in late 2016. \nNorth Angle Farm is located just south of the existing Triangle solar farm. North Angle could generate nearly the same amount of electricity as used by 12\,000 households annually and would prevent the emission of more than 90\,000 tonnes of CO2 over the project’s lifetime. \n“This exciting project could fund the continuation and development of frontline services\,” explains Councillor Josh Schumann. “It’s also a way to ensure that we’re looking at smarter\, more sustainable energy solutions for the future of our region.” \nThe project team will be providing opportunities\, a survey and online events for the public to learn more about the project ahead of a full planning application being submitted. \nMembers of the public can join virtual Zoom events to hear more about the North Angle Solar Farm development on the 29th April 2020 at 6pm (join via https://zoom.us/j/127599673)\, and the 13th May 2020 at 6pm (join at https://zoom.us/j/112409311). \nFor further details\, please email mlei@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or visit www.mlei.co.uk.
