SUMMARY:Tackling the problem of waste - iiE FREE online event
DESCRIPTION:Tackling the problem of waste – iiE FREE online event Tuesday 6th October 2012 10am – 11am  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis year marks the 10th anniversary of the Investors in the Environment (iiE) Awards\, and to celebrate the occasion we are launching a full programme of free online events for you and your team to join. \nWe are planning a week-long series of webinars to engage organisations with different environmental initiatives to inspire\, influence and share best practice. The programme will culminate in the iiE Awards on International Clean Air Day (Thursday 8th October). \nJoin us on Tuesday 6th October\, at 10am\, for a free online event all about ‘Tackling the problem of waste’. \nHear from Jen Gale on ‘Zero Waste(ish) – tips for slimming your bin for the imperfectly green’. Jen is an ordinary\, knackered mum of two whose life changed when she dragged and cajoled the family into a year buying nothing new. \nThat year changed not only what she buys\, but also how she sees her place in the world. Jen recognised the power that we all have as individuals to make a difference to the things we care about\, simply through getting informed about the impact of our daily choices\, and figuring out easy swaps and changes. \nThe family are still (just about) talking to her and they live in Wiltshire where Jen writes and podcasts about all things Sustainable(ish). Jen is the author of The Sustainable(ish) Living Guide (out now) and The Sustainable(ish) Guide to Green Parenting\, which is out in March 2021. \nYou can also hear from Hugo Tagholm\, who leads the national marine conservation and campaigning charity Surfers Against Sewage (SAS)\, on ‘Driving Systems Change through Grassroots Activism‘. \nSurfers Against Sewage is a marine conservation and campaign group taking action on plastic pollution from the beachfront to the boardroom. Working with hundreds of thousands of volunteers and ocean activists nationwide\, it uses evidence found along our coastline and rivers to drive change in the systems\, products and attitudes to waste. \nThe charity takes action from the beach front to the front benches of Parliament\, where it unites a voice for the ocean through its Ocean Conservation All Party Parliamentary Group. It mobilises over 100\,000 community beach and river clean volunteers annually and has been instrumental in helping introduce and enforce new government legislation to protect our seas. \nHugo is an environmentalist\, award-winning campaigner\, surfer\, charity professional and a TEDx speaker. He was recently awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science for his services to marine conservation by Exeter University. Hugo lives in Cornwall with his wife Sarah and son Darwin. \nBook your free place at the Zoom event here. \nDuring this event the winner of the iiE Awards 2020 Best Waste Reduction award will be announced. \nAn Investors in the Environment online event.
