SUMMARY:Mayor's Charity Bike Ride
DESCRIPTION:Spring is in the air and to celebrate why not join the Mayor of Peterborough for a family-friendly 15km charity cycle ride. We will depart from the PECT offices in Ham Lane at 2:30pm and will follow cycle paths along the river Nene to the Peterborough Lido Gardens before returning via Ferry Meadows\, aiming to arrive back at Ham Lane around 4pm where PECT will be providing refreshments\, snacks and prizes for finishers. \nThe route \nThe route has been designed to be accessible to cyclists of all ages and is predominantly on dedicated cycle paths away from traffic. There is around 200m of cycling on quiet roads as well as a few road and train-track crossings where extra care must be taken. \nThe route map can be seen here: Green wheel – 15km | bike Tour | Komoot \nWho can join? \nAnyone can join\, there is no need to register or pay\, simply turn up on the day and have fun. PECT riders will be on-hand to ensure that everyone gets round so you don’t have to worry about keeping up. \nWhat to bring \nOn the day\, make sure you bring water\, snacks\, weather-suitable clothing (e.g. sunhats\, raincoats)\, a bike lock and cash if you would like to make a donation. We would also advise you to bring a basic repair kit including a cycle pump. \nIMPORTANT INFORMATION \nNote that PECT riders will be on hand to guide the route\, but you are responsible for your own safety and that of any minors you are accompanying on the ride. You can leave the ride early if you want to\, we just ask you that you let a member of the PECT team know. Please ensure you cycle safely\, following the Highway Code and that your bike is in a suitable condition for riding. We will ride at a slow and steady pace\, adjusting to weather conditions where needed to minimise risks. In extreme weather\, where we judge the risk of cycling to be unsafe\, we will cancel the ride.

Find us at various locations across the city on the 1st Saturday of the month\, 11am-3.30pm. \nThis month we are at Railworld. \nThere is a limit to what we will attempt to fix; our slots are 45 minutes long. We do functional repairs of household items (we are not The Repair Shop from TV!). We can look at things like:\n• Simple clothes repairs like zips and tears\n• Small electrical appliances like radios and vacuum cleaners \n• Tools that need sharpening or repairing.\n\nDepending on the location and volunteer availability\, we might also be able to do basic bike repairs and maintenance\, fix toys\, or do simple woodwork repairs on portable furniture.\n\nIf it can’t be carried in\, we can’t fix it! We cannot fix large items such washing machines\, and fridges\, cars\, or large TVs. We also don’t do specialist repairs for things like mobile phones\, or complicated restoration projects on furniture.\n\nWe only allow booking of ONE ITEM per person per repair café\, this is to give as many people as possible a chance to use this opportunity. Multiple items may be considered on the day\, but this cannot be guaranteed.

SUMMARY:What about the People? How your organisation can showcase its social impact
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the next Investors in the Environment webinar to hear about Good Business Charter. \n97% of consumers believe businesses could act responsibly\, and almost half of younger workers are asking employers what their ESG stance is. How can businesses show they are responsible in a way that is clear and covers all the key areas\, upholding standards in how they treat their staff and wider stakeholders\, as well as minimising their environmental impact and still generating a profit? Jenny Herrera\, CEO of the Good Business Charter will be talking about why we need to champion the S in ESG more emphatically and unpack the benefits that an approach framed around Good Business Charter accreditation can bring for your whole organisation. \nThe Good Business Charter’s aims complement those of Investors in the Environment. During the webinar\, we’ll hear from iiE members who have already joined GBC and the benefits they have derived from being Good and Green. \nJenny Herrera is the CEO of the Good Business Charter which recognises responsible business practices across 10 components covering care for employees\, customers\, suppliers and the environment whilst also paying tax according to the spirit of the law. Jenny is both a chartered accountant and experienced charity CEO.
