SUMMARY:Habitat Maintenance in Castor Hanglands - Work Party
DESCRIPTION:We need your help with habitat maintenance. \nCastor Hanglands is one of Britain’s first national nature reserves and a very important part of John Clare countryside. Due to its array of species and wildlife it requires year round support and management to make sure all the variety’s of flora and fauna can thrive and flourish. If left\, some more delicate grassland species can quickly become overwhelmed. \nOur work party will help to cut back these more aggressive and domineering plants to help maintain these fragile grassland habitats. \n  \nOne of the JCC team will meet you at the road entrance to the reserve and guide you to the work area. There is very little parking at the site so expect to park along the roadside and walk around half a kilometre to the event site. \nIt can be quite wet and cold so please wrap up warm and wear appropriate footwear. Bring a snack and drink along with you and extra layers are highly recommended. There is an array of wildlife on site including free roaming cows and deer.

SUMMARY:Create a wildlife haven at local school
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in nature and helping Northborough Junior school to improve their wildlife area? \nWhy not join our volunteer sessions to help your local community to increase your conservation experience and learn new skills. Your support will help us to improve a wildlife haven and the outdoor play areas. \nEach of the two sessions will be relaxed and informal and you can attend both sessions if you choose to. \nOutdoor volunteer sessions can help boost mental wellbeing\, and create an opportunity to meet like-minded wildlife enthusiasts. Please wear outdoor suitable clothing and bring a packed lunch if you attend both sessions.During the session\, you will prune young trees and tidy up any overgrown areas. Pruning early on helps to keep the trees growing healthily and increases the quantity of flowers/fruits on growing trees. It also ensures the removal of diseased/dying tissue and closed-off\, dense branches. This benefits wildlife\, as it includes shelter/food resources for our native pollinator and bird species. \nThe trees planted are part of the Forests For Peterborough project\, which aims to plant 230\,000 trees throughout the wider Peterborough area – one for every citizen – by 2030. With the support of our volunteers\, the newly planted trees for the Forest for Peterborough have already reduced 1\,300 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere. Tree maintenance is very important for the health and longevity of our trees. Healthy trees are able to grow faster and will absorb higher levels of carbon. All helping to create a healthier planet! \nThere are two sessions available: 9.30 – 12.30 and 1.00 – 4.00. \nPlease specify which session you are interested in when booking. \nFor any queries please contact nature@pect.org.uk \nPlease book your place here: Volunteer event helps local School to create a wildlife haven Tickets\, Sat 23 Oct 2021 at 09:30 | Eventbrite
