DESCRIPTION:Soham’s 48th Pumpkin Fair! \nThe theme for this year is ‘Jubilee Trees’ to link in with the Queens Green Canopy in her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee Year. There will be lots of competitions and activities based on our theme – in this period of climate change\, perhaps we should all take the time to recognise how important trees are to us all. \nOur one beneficiary for 2022 is Building Brass Roots\, an important initiative providing musical instrument tuition to children with a link to the development of a youth training band with Soham Comrades Band. \nA first for this year is a collaboration with Soham Community Fire & Rescue Service and so Soham Fire Station Open Day will be held within the Pumpkin Fair. \nPECT’s Warm Homes Team will be attending to provide free energy saving advice and free energy saving goodies.

SUMMARY:Dr Gail Bradbrook - Beyond... Heading for Collapse Whilst Being The Change
DESCRIPTION:Dr Gail Bradbrook has been researching\, planning\, and training for mass civil disobedience since 2010 and is a co-founder of the social movement Extinction Rebellion (XR)\, which has spread internationally since its launch in October 2018: there are more than 1150 XR groups in 75 countries. Gail has been arrested several times for acts of civil disobedience\, and for these actions she faced a potential jail sentence of up to 10 years. \nGail has trained in molecular biophysics\, and her talk on the science of the ecological crisis\, the psychology of active participation\, and the need for civil disobedience has gone viral and been inspired many to join XR. \nGail is from Yorkshire\, the mother of two boys\, the daughter of a coal miner\, and was named by GQ as one of the top 50 influencers in the UK\, and honoured in a Women’s Hour Power list for her part in instigating a rebellion against the British Government. \nArrival at the event is from 6pm\, there will be food available (vegan daal) provided by our volunteers\, providing an opportunity to eat and settle in the space together before the talk begins. \nFollowing Gail’s talk there will be an opportunity for questions.
