SUMMARY:People's Assembly XR Peterborough - Green Backyard (PE2 8AT)
DESCRIPTION:Saturday January 25th 12pm –  5pm  \nPeople’s Assembly XR Peterborough  \nExtinction Rebellion Peterborough is meeting for an afternoon of sharing. \nThere will be a bring and share picnic\, a people’s assembly exploring ideas on actions going forwards and a chance to participate in workshops such as ‘Gaia’s choir‘ and the ‘Rhythmic Rebels’ samba band and XR Arts factory T-shirt printing. \nXR’s Vision \nOur world is in crisis. Life itself is under threat. Yet every crisis contains the possibility of transformation. Across the world\, heralded by the young\, people are waking up and coming together. \nWe hear history calling to us from the future. We catch glimpses of a new world of love\, respect and regeneration\, where we have restored the intricate web of all life. It’s a future that’s inside us all – located in the fierce love we carry for our children\, in our urge to help a stranger in distress\, in our wish to forgive\, even when that seems too much to ask. \nAnd so we rebel for this\, calling in joy\, creativity and beauty. We rise in the name of truth and withdraw our consent for ecocide\, oppression and patriarchy. We rise up for a world where power is shared for regeneration\, repair and reconciliation. We rise for love in its ultimate wisdom. Our vision stretches beyond our own lifespan\, to a horizon dedicated to future generations and the restoration of our planet’s integrity. \nTogether\, our rebellion is the gift this world needs. We are XR and you are us. \nOur Demands \n1 Tell the truth\nGovernment must tell the truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency\, working with other institutions to communicate the urgency for change. \n2 Act Now\nGovernment must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025. \n3 Beyond Politics\nGovernment must create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice. \nAll are welcome who adhere to our values and principles: \n1. we have a shared vision of change\nCreating a world that is fit for generations to come. \n2. we set our mission on what is necessary\nMobilising 3.5% of the population to achieve system change – using ideas such as “Momentum-driven organising” to achieve this. \n3. we need a regenerative culture\nCreating a culture which is healthy\, resilient and adaptable. \n4. we openly challenge ourselves and our toxic system\nLeaving our comfort zones to take action for change. \n5. we value reflecting and learning\nFollowing a cycle of action\, reflection\, learning\, and planning for more action. SUMMARY:Tree Planting Day - Bretton Park (PE3 8RN)
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with PECT’s Forest for Peterborough project\, the Church of the Holy Spirit (situated at the Bretton Centre) is encouraging local people to get tree planting on Sunday 26 January to help combat the impact of climate change. \nMembers of the church congregation will be leading the planting\, but all local residents are invited to come along and help plant some trees. It is hoped that the tree planting will help bring the community together in the act of creating a new wood for the future. \nThe tree planting will involve a small number of native mixed species of upper canopy trees and then a larger range of smaller shrub species; with the concentration of planting being on the lower shrub layer around existing trees to improve the habitat complexity of the site. \nMeet in Bretton Park (PE3 8RN). The site will be signposted from the Bretton Centre side of the park.

SUMMARY:The Work that Reconnects: Book Club - Peterborough Quaker Meeting House (PE3 6AB)
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday 28th January 2020 7.30pm – 9pm  \nThe Work that Reconnects: Book Club  \n\n\nExtinction Rebellion Peterborough Regenerative Culture Team are bringing together a book club. Reading the book ‘Active Hope’ we will explore our collective response to this iconic piece of work by Veteran Activist Joanna Macy. \nActive Hope guides readers on a transformative journey designed to strengthen their capacity to act for life on Earth. While reading the book alone can bring great benefits\, the strengthening journey it offers is enhanced by the company of fellow readers. Increasingly\, groups committed to social and ecological justice are reading this book together\, with Active Hope book journeys becoming a shared process to deepen community and resource ourselves in addressing concerns about the world. \nWeek 1 – Introduction and first two chapters (28/1) \nWeek 2 – Chapter 3 on Gratitude (11/2) \nWeek 3 – On Honouring our Pain for the World (25/2) \nWeek 4 – Chapters 5\, 6\, 7 & 8 on Seeing With New Eyes (10/3) \nWeek 5 – Chapters 9 & 10 on Going Forth (24/3) \nWeek 6 – Chapters 11\, 12 & 13 on Going Forth (7/4) \nIf you would like to be part of this group then you will need to read the above chapters before attending. \nAll are welcome who adhere to Extinction Rebellion’s principles and values: \n1. we have a shared vision of change\nCreating a world that is fit for generations to come. \n2. we set our mission on what is necessary\nMobilising 3.5% of the population to achieve system change – using ideas such as “Momentum-driven organising” to achieve this. \n3. we need a regenerative culture\nCreating a culture which is healthy\, resilient and adaptable. \n4. we openly challenge ourselves and our toxic system\nLeaving our comfort zones to take action for change. \n5. we value reflecting and learning\nFollowing a cycle of action\, reflection\, learning\, and planning for more action. Learning from other movements and contexts as well as our own experiences. \n6. we welcome everyone and every part of everyone\nWorking actively to create safer and more accessible spaces. \n7. we actively mitigate for power\nBreaking down hierarchies of power for more equitable participation. \n8. we avoid blaming and shaming\nWe live in a toxic system\, but no one individual is to blame. \n9. we are a non-violent network\nUsing non-violent strategy and tactics as the most effective way to bring about change. \n10. we are based on autonomy and decentralisation\nWe collectively create the structures we need to challenge power. Anyone who follows these core principles and values can take action in the name of Extinction Rebellion. \n\n\n\nFree but donations to XR Peterborough are welcome.\n\nTuesday 28th January 2020 7.30pm – 9pm \n\nPeterborough Quaker Meeting House\, 21 Thorpe Rd\, Peterborough PE3 6AB \nFurther sessions Tuesdays 11th/25th February; 10th/24th March; 7th April @ 7.30pm \nAn Extinction Rebellion Peterborough series of events.
