When we published our 2024 Impact Report, we wanted it to do more than share stats and stories. We wanted it to spark action, whether that’s with us, through another organisation, or in your own way, on your own terms.
Because this isn’t about PECT, it’s about place and the people who care about it.
Change is already happening
PECT has been championing sustainability across Peterborough and the wider region for over 30 years. But we’re not doing it alone, and we wouldn’t want to.
This city and surrounding area is packed with people taking initiative, building momentum, and quietly getting on with the job of making life better.
Just a few examples:
- Peterborough Wombles and Pride in Peterborough, cleaning up our public spaces
- Repair Cafés, helping items live longer
- Nene Coppicing and Craft groups, preserving local heritage while protecting habitats
- Community fridges, fighting food waste and supporting households
- Green social prescribing, linking health and nature
- Local businesses like Refill Revolution and Up The Garden Bath, helping people reduce waste and support sustainable retail
This is what local climate action looks like: real, practical, and led by communities.
Where we fit in
At PECT, we focus on enabling and scaling sustainable change. That means supporting people, projects, and places to take meaningful action.
Our 2025–2028 Strategy puts communities at the centre of our work. Here’s where we’re focusing our energy:
- Fuel poverty support – through CHESS and HEART, we help households save energy and stay warm
- Climate education – we’re working with schools to build climate literacy in classrooms
- Nature recovery – we plant the right trees in the right places, restore habitats, and support pollinators
- Business support – through iiE and ASPECT, we’re helping organisations reduce their impact
- Community-led action – we’re launching a new Community Champions network to support local leadership (still looking for a better name, by the way—suggestions welcome!)
We’re not here to do everything ourselves. We’re here to connect, collaborate, and create the conditions that let others thrive.
Ways you can get involved
You don’t need to be an expert to make a difference. Whether you’ve got skills to offer, time to give, or a platform to share, we’re always looking for new ways to work together.
New: Community Champions network
We’re building a network of local people who want to lead on sustainability in their area. That could mean organising events, hosting conversations, or linking people to local support. If that sounds like you, get in touch at [email protected].
Join our Board of Trustees
We’re actively looking to strengthen and diversify our Board. If you’ve got lived experience, local knowledge, or professional skills that could guide our work, we’d love to hear from you. You don’t need a background in environmental work, just a commitment to positive change.
Partner with us
Schools, councils, businesses, community groups; we’re always open to collaboration. If you’ve got an idea or want to explore working together, let’s have a conversation.
Or support someone else. That’s fine too.
We’re not here to compete or claim credit. We’re proud of the role we play, but just as proud of the wider movement happening in and around Peterborough.
So if PECT isn’t quite your thing, support another brilliant group. Or take one small step in your own life. It all adds up.
Our 2024 Impact Report is live now. It’s a snapshot of what we’ve achieved together, with residents, schools, businesses, and communities.
Have a look. See what appeals to you. And if it inspires something, great.
And to everyone already supporting us—thank you.
Whether you’ve volunteered, got involved in one of our projects, recommended us to someone, taken part in a corporate social responsibility day, fundraised, donated, or partnered with us.
