Marketing and Communications Manager

Purpose of role:

This is a crucial time to be working on this agenda. This exciting role will help to shape how we talk to people about our work. You will be responsible for developing and delivering an integrated marketing and communications strategy and for proactively raising awareness of PECT and our work, which includes regional, national, and international projects.

Drawing on input and support from the wider team, this is an all-round marketing role covering strategy, digital, social media, events, promotional materials and advertising as well as communications and public relations.

Half a day a week of the role is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for working on Eastern New Energy. Eastern New Energy is an ERDF funded project focused on implementing low carbon solutions. PECT is delivering a SME Grant Scheme to support investment by small businesses in energy efficiency and renewable energy project.

Based: This position will be based at PECT’s offices: Ham Lane House, Ham Lane Peterborough PE2 5UU. Hybrid working is currently in place with two days per week in the office.

Salary (per annum pro rata): £30,000-£32,500

Start Date: As soon as possible

Hours/Week: 37 hours a week, flexible options considered

Work outside normal hours: Occasional evening and weekend work may be required

Key responsibilities

  • Alongside the SMT, develop a new marketing strategy to reposition PECT to enable us to have the greatest impact on bringing about positive environmental change.
  • Deliver the marketing and communications strategy for PECT and our projects and services, ensuring that objectives are met
  • Develop and deliver promotional activities for local, national and international projects (audiences include business, schools and communities), ensuring they meet funder requirements
  • Develop new and existing relationships with supporters and key audiences (including the media) to motivate them to continue their support and form closer links with the organisation
  • Oversee and be an in-house expert on our digital presence, delivering professional and engaging website and social media content to meet our objectives
  • Implement and manage an SEO strategy to ensure that all PECT websites and content are optimised and ranking highly
  • Manage paid advertising strategies, including Google Ad campaigns
  • Manage the implementation of new websites, including content and design
  • Manage contractors/services including web, design agencies to ensure projects are delivered on time and to budget
  • Coordinate and manage communications with the media regarding proactive and reactive enquiries in-line with protocols
  • Manage reputation and public image
  • Oversee events where appropriate, supervising and managing staff or contractors to ensure they deliver the best possible event
  • Manage marketing budgets
  • Play an active role in project delivery as appropriate
  • Report marketing activity and Return on Investment to SMT and the Board of Trustees
  • Represent PECT at meetings and events to build partnerships. .

Person specification

  • Relevant experience in marketing and communications
  • Experience of digital media, including managing and updating websites (specifically WordPress websites) and social media
  • Experience of implementing and managing successful SEO strategies
  • Good understanding and experience of marketing and communications tools including online advertising, e-newsletters, events, and media relations and how they can be applied effectively.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good attention to detail and adept at drafting clear and concise articles and press releases.
  • Track record of successful media engagement
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to encourage collaboration.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of self-motivation and to complete tasks with the minimum of supervision
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, to prioritise and manage a wide range of tasks and to be proactive, reactive and well organised
  • Experience of managing contractors

Essential criteria:

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, ability to manage projects and organise network effectively to a tight schedule and to completion
  • Proven track record of meeting challenging KPIs and targets
  • Demonstrable experience of managing multiple tasks/activities/events at one time.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and use own initiative, and within a small team
  • Able to work effectively under pressure and handle changing priorities
  • Ability to transport equipment to events and undertake manual handling
  • Willingness to learn and undertake training where appropriate
  • Enthusiasm for and understanding of environmental/sustainable development issues
