Can you achieve Zero Waste to landfill this February?

Waste
Can you manage a week without putting anything in the bin? The national green accreditation scheme Investors in the Environment (iiE) is calling for businesses, households and members of the public to take part in their annual Zero Waste Week challenge!

Zero Waste Week takes place on Monday 22 – Sunday 28 February 2016, and the initiative is all about helping the environment and reducing waste to landfill whilst saving you money – plus it’s free to take part in and fun!

“This is a great initiative for everyone to get involved with. It will enable you to look at your day-to-day actions to make a long-lasting behaviour change – plus you get to take part in a challenge that’s fantastic fun!” explains iiE’s Kim Coley. “You don’t have to go completely Zero Waste; the idea is simply to think about what rubbish you produce and try to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill.”

Whether you choose to tape office bins shut for a week, get a compost bin, cut back on junk mail, not use office printers for one day, or eat home-cooked food to reduce packaging, iiE wants to hear your green pledges and planned actions! iiE is asking participants to share photographs of their green pledges and activities on social media @iiEUK with the hashtag #ZeroWasteWeek.

If you’re a business wanting to take part in the week and would like a free step-by-step guide to planning a successful Zero Waste Week as well as case studies and successes from other businesses, call Kim Coley on 01733 866436 or email [email protected].

In addition to this, for any person or business that would be interested in cleaning up their local area, helping their environment and taking action and engaging their staff or families  within the community, come along and join a free Zero Waste Week Litterpick event. This will be held on Wednesday 24 February, from 4pm-6pm, starting at the river site behind ASDA in Peterborough city centre. All bags, gloves and pickers are provided (by sponsors IKEA Distribution) for the session. To book, call David Knight on 01733 882547 or email [email protected].
