Community litter pick to celebrate Zero Waste Week

Nature Volunteering Waste

PECT, Green Energy Switch and Family Voice team up for a litter pick in time for Zero Waste Week.

Litter is a huge problem in the UK. It’s expensive to clean up, harms wildlife, and isn’t very pleasant on the eyes. That’s why local environmental charity PECT & energy switching provider Green Energy Switch’s Green Team (a group of employees working to reduce the organisations’ environmental impact) has teamed up with the Family Voice Community Café to organise a litter pick in Orton Goldhay Centre to tackle litter in the local community as part of Zero Waste Week.

PECT & Green Energy Switch are committed to creating sustainable places and have revamped their Green Team this year to go further to reduce the organisations’ environmental impact whilst supporting the local community. As part of this, they have organised a range of activities to celebrate Zero Waste Week (5th-9th September 2022).

“Family Voice was a natural partner to team up with as they carry out incredible work to support local communities and it’s the perfect opportunity to kick start their monthly litter picks in the area,” says PECT Green Team leads, Emily Appleby and Hannah Carpenter.

Although reducing waste is the best way to reduce pollution and harm to wildlife from waste, litter picking is a great way to clean up our streets. Come along and join us on Wednesday 7th September at the Orton Goldhay Centre Community Café anytime between 12 pm-2 pm.

People of all ages are welcome, and you don’t need any previous experience or equipment, as we’ll be providing adult and children litter pickers and safety equipment. The café will also be providing hot drinks and cake!

To register interest or find out more, please visit Orton Goldhay Centre’s events calendar on their website, familyvoice.org.
