PECT wins a national Green Apple Award

PECT Update
The independent charity Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) is delighted to have won a nationally recognised Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice, which was awarded for its annual Green Festival.

“We are absolutely delighted to win a prestigious Green Apple Award,” explains PECT’s Communities Team Leader Karen Igho. “It is a fantastic accolade for Peterborough’s Green Festival and an endorsement of all the hard work put in to making the Festival a huge success.”

The Peterborough Green Festival is one of the biggest and longest running environmental festivals in the UK, and the 2015 event was the most successful to date! Overall the Festival attracted more than 10,000 participants and worked together with 38 partner organisations across the city and surrounding areas.

Funded by Travelchoice and the Arts Council, the festival’s theme this year was sustainable transport. The aim was to inspire people to take positive action through active participation in Green Festival events and by pledging to make changes for a greener, cleaner city.

The 2015 Green Festival demonstrated a unique ability to showcase sustainability issues in new and innovative ways, using locally commissioned artworks to engage with a wider audience and get everyone talking about their impact on the environment.

The Green Festival was also selected as one of only six European Green Week fringe events happening in the UK, putting Peterborough on the map for environmental issues.

The Green Apple Award will be presented at The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Palace in London in November. For more information about PECT’s work, visit the website at www.pect.org.uk and sign up to the free e-newsletter.
