Travelchoice’s summer fiesta fortnight

A fun-packed summer fiesta and pedal-powered cycle cinema will signal the start of this year’s free Travelchoice fortnight in Peterborough.

The family fun day at Peterborough’s East Community Centre on Padholme Road, is just one of a number of free events and activities taking place from Saturday 22 August to Saturday 5 September, all celebrating sustainable travel options across Peterborough.

The ever popular cycle cinema returns to various locations with this year’s films including The Lion King, Shark Tale and The Penguins of Madagascar in addition to a drive-in car share cinema showing The Hangover.

The full list of free events are:

Saturday 22 August – Summer fiesta launch and cycle cinema – Shark Tale – East Community Centre, Padholme Road – 10am to 5pm (the film starts at 12.30pm). The free fun day includes bouncy castles, smoothie bike, pedal powered watt challenge, scalextric and various giveaway competitions.

Sunday 23 August – Drive-in car share cinema – The Hangover – Peterborough Garden Park, Eye – 8.30pm. To gain free entry to see the film there must be more than one person in the car to promote car sharing.

Tuesday 25 August – Business breakfast – Peterborough Town Hall reception room. If you work in the city centre come and grab a free breakfast between 8am and 11am. You can also find out local travel information as well as getting your own personalised travel plan.

Thursday 27 August – Electric car day – Cathedral Square – 10am to 4pm. Electric vehicles are becoming more popular. Find out why from the experts at this free open day and electric vehicle display.

Saturday 29 August – Travelchoice city centre bonanza – Cathedral Square and St John’s Square – 10am to 5pm. Free activities for all ages including a pedal powered sound system, Zumba, a freestyle BMX stunt champion, live music, bike marking and a children’s playbus.

Wednesday 2 September – Cycle cinema – The Penguins of Madagascar – Serpentine Green Shopping Centre, Hampton – 10am to 4pm (the film starts at 1pm). In addition to the film there will be free fruit smoothies and a chance to win prizes.

Thursday 3 September – Cycle cinema – The Lion King – Central Park, Peterborough – 7.30pm. Listen to live music from Tallawah and have your face painted as Simba in readiness for the free pedal powered film classic at 8.30pm. There will be free popcorn available, or bring along a picnic.

Saturday 5 September – Travelchoice Summer Fiesta Finale – Ferry Meadows Country Park – 10am to 5pm. A celebratory finale of all things to do with cycling. Try out a range of bikes from trikes to cargo bikes. There will also be lots of children’s games, a bouncy castle and bike marking with Dr Bike.
