Could your empty drinks cans become an amazing work of art?
Schools and community groups across Peterborough are invited to get creative, get recycling and show just how valuable our everyday resources can be by taking part in the Every Can Counts artwork competition. The challenge is simple: collect aluminium drinks cans and transform them into an inspiring 3D artwork based on the theme ‘Our Earth, Our Planet’. It’s a fun, hands-on way to explore recycling, rethink waste and inspire positive action for our planet. This competition is being delivered by Peterborough City Council in partnership with PECT, Alupro and Every Can Counts.
Ready to get creative?
1. Sign up
Complete the online entry form by 5pm on 21 May 2027. Each school or community group can submit one entry.
2. Start collecting
Once you’ve entered, Peterborough City Council’s Waste Team will get in touch to arrange your Alupro Every Can Counts pack.
Your pack contains:
- a cardboard can-collection bin
- collection bags
- posters to help promote your recycling challenge
Then it’s time to get your school or community involved and start collecting aluminium cans.
3. Create your masterpiece
Here’s where you can let your imagination take over! Use the cans you’ve collected to create a piece of artwork inspired by: Our Earth, Our Planet. Your finished creation needs to be: made from aluminium cans, 3D, free-standing, and easy to transport. You can glue the cans together, paint them and decorate them, so get creative and make your design your own.
4. Share your creation
When your artwork is complete, take a photo and email it to [email protected] by 5pm on 21 May 2027.
Remember to include: your school or community group name, the title of your artwork, and your contact information.
What could you win?
There are three competition categories:
- Primary schools
- Secondary schools
- Community groups
One winner will be chosen from each category. Each winning school or community group will receive gardening vouchers to help make their own outdoor space greener. Even better, the three winning artworks will be displayed at the Peterborough Celebrates Festival at Ferry Meadows, from 18 to 20 June 2027, giving thousands of people the chance to see what you’ve created.
Entries will be judged by representatives from Peterborough City Council, PECT and Alupro, with the winners announced in June 2027.
