Event Overview

Lunchtime Concert: Die Winterreise (Part 1) – Robert-John Edwards: Tuesday 9th October 2018 (1pm -1.45pm)

In this lunchtime concert Bass-Baritone Robert-John Edwards and pianist Gina Kruger will perform the first part of Schubert’s Die Winterreise (Winter Journey) D911.

This cycle of 24 songs was composed and published in two separate halves during 1827, and today’s concert is a performance of the first twelve songs as published in January 1828.

Die Winterreise is the second of Schubert’s great song cycles based on the poems of Wilhelm Müller, following on from Die Schöne Müllerin, which Jonathan Hanley performed in St John’s earlier in the year.

As usual the café will be open from noon, serving a range of hot drinks and homemade quiche, cakes, scones etc. All profits from the café will go to The Green Backyard.

The concert will begin promptly at 1pm.

Admission is free, but those who are able to afford it are asked to make a donation (suggested amount is £5).

No need to book in advance.

Robert-John Edwards will be returning to St John’s on 9th November, for an evening concert entitled “A Ploughman’s Tale”.
