Forest

We're creating a Forest for Peterborough...

Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) is working with a range of different partners to create a Forest for Peterborough.

If you would like to find out more, read the Forest for Peterborough business plan.  This document outlines the vision and provides a framework for parternship arrangements, planting policy and future management of the project.

The response to the project has been incredible with local companies like Utility Aid pledging their support and the Woodland Trust offering advice and help.

Adopt a Tree!

For just £15 you can give the gift of a tree in the Forest for Peterborough! We’ll give you the opportunity to plant your trees, we’ll send you a personalised certificate and your name will be recorded on the Forest website.

You can plant as many trees as you like. Four trees cost £50, ten trees cost £100, and 100 trees cost £800 (the cost of the trees includes planting and maintenance).**

You can purchase a tree (or a few trees!) through our Big Give site - click here.

Join us to plant trees!

Between January and March 2011 we planted the very first trees in our forest for Peterborough at Thorpe Meadows.  Over four days 120 volunteers helped to plant 5,000 trees.

To attend any planting events we invite as many people as possible to come and help. All people need to bring is wellies and a spade (if you have one, if not we have one to borrow).

For more information about this event and future events, contact Caroline Hall on 01733 882545 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Please note that unseasonably dry weather has affected some of the newly planted trees. PECT are planning important tree maintenance works in order to conserve Forest for Peterborough and ensure our woodlands continue to flourish!

What's it all about?

The Forest for Peterborough project won’t create a single woodland in one set place, but will increase tree coverage in different areas all over the city.

It provides a welcome boost to Peterborough’s Environment Capital aspirations and will increase biodiversity in the city.

Caroline Hall, Forest for Peterborough project officer for PECT explains, “We have a long-term vision for this project spanning 15 years and beyond. This project will certainly increase the number of trees planted in Peterborough. But it’s also about more than just trees – we want to increase the range of habitats in the city such as grassland and hedgerow as well as woodland. We want to create green corridors throughout Peterborough to allow our wildlife to flourish."

Who is supporting the project?

The project has received support from many local and national organisations including: Peterborough's Natural Networks Partnership (a group which represents many of the leading nature conservation organisations operaUtility Aid logoting locally), Peterborough City Council, the Woodland Trust, the Forestry Commission, Natural England, RSPB, Nene Park Trust, and the Wildlife Trust. We are lucky enough to have broadcaster (and tree lover) Clive Anderson launching the project.

We are grateful to full service utility consultancy Utility Aid for their support of the project.
